Seasoned Generation Program
How do you empower seniors in our community to make informed decision that can maintain and/or enhance their quality of life? Knowledge is the key.
Factoid:
Almost 13% (37.9 million) persons are 65 or older today. It is estimated that by 2020 there will be 55 million persons over 65 and in 2030, 72 million (19.3%). Less than 25% of the senior population today are self sustaining, and over 89% are receiving Social Security and many are still working.
The Seasoned Generation Program provides an ongoing series of informational forums designed to introduce, clarify, and update seniors on programs, services and resources that are available to assist them in meeting many of their life needs. The overarching goal of the program is to keep seniors informed, independent, and self sufficient with the ability to remain in their homes for as long as they wish. Forum topics include but are not limited to Care-giving, Living Wills, Trusts, Veteran Benefits, Medical and Non-medical At Home Services, Assisted Living Alternatives , Aging Issues, Financial Planning, Health Services, Identity Theft, Medicare, Medicaid, and Physical Fitness.
The work of the Seasoned Generation program is accomplished through collaborations with youth volunteers, community partners, and agencies that provide timely and updated subject matter. We partner with other faith based organizations for transportation services to insure that seniors have transportation to and from the information forum. Currently this program is unfunded and is in the process of being restructured to become a Senior Resource Center. The goal is to create an all-purpose service center for seniors.
