Substance Abuse and Suicide Awareness

When we think of healing, we understand that it is a process. All healing takes time. During that time is when all the necessary components that nurture the process must be aligned and delivered.

The HEAAL Coalition is just such a component for the Maricopa County community, increasing awareness and offering prevention resources for substance abuse and suicide within the African American community.

HEAAL Coalition is proud to work in partnership with Magellan, one of the leading diversified behavioral health care management organizations in Arizona, Worthy Institute, also a provider of prevention and education resources for families and Tanner Community Development Corporation (TCDC). These three components work side-by-side with approximately 25 other community-focused organizations and individuals to collaborate the programs and resources offered by HEAAL Coalition.

We welcome your thoughts on the issue of marijuana, alcohol and substance abuse, in general, and invite you to be a part of our coalition, participate in upcoming community surveys and forums or take advantage of the various services we offer. Take this opportunity to learn more about your community and the social issues facing you and/or your family. Meet and collaborate with neighbors and community organizations.  When we HEAAL, we promote positive change!

Coalition Activities

Community Youth Chapters

The Coalition also sponsors youth chapters throughout Maricopa County, providing a monthly open forum for youth to discuss ideas on how to cope with the effects of substance abuse (youth marijuana use, alcohol, tobacco etc.).  These youth chapters also provide opportunities for leadership development, training and come together to create new supporting activities.

Parent Navigators

Parenting is one of life’s most important responsibilities. Are you a parent, guardian, relative or community member interested in the well-being of children? The Parent Navigator program is designed to help overcome the challenges of helping a child become a self-sufficient and well adjusted adult.

Parent Navigators are people, just like you, who have been trained to navigate the social service system, provide information on resources and support. Through this informative and enjoyable training program, individuals learn what it takes to access a broad range of services for children and assist families in ways that are specifically designed to meet their needs.
