ANTI-TOBACCO PROGRAM TCDC collaborates with the Arizona Department of Health Services/Bureau of
Tobacco and Chronic Disease. The goal of the program is to identify and eliminate tobacco related disparities in
the African-American community. Specifically, TCDC has initiatives aimed at: (1) educating youth on the addictive
nature of tobacco, (2) establishing a tobacco free policy on church campuses, and (3) building capacity in
community organizations to promote quitting. Personalized ongoing professional support is offered to all tobacco
users looking for help with quitting through the Arizona Smokers Helpline, called ASHLine: 1-800-55-66-222. |

HEART & SOUL A collaborative effort among TCDC, the Black Nurses Association - Greater Phoenix Area and
St. Luke’s Health Initiatives to reduce heart and lung disease among African-Americans and other racial/ethnic
minorities. This initiative targets the homeless, teens and their parents, the faith-based and broader community
and focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, cardiovascular and lung disease education, blood pressure
screening, tobacco awareness and prevention. Initiatives include a Food Pantry, a Youth & Adult Cardiovascular
Programs, Faith & Community Collaborative Summits, and Community Gardens, and Asset Based Communities of
Practice. It’s all based on the assets, strengths, passions and gifts of the community. |

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM TCDC has initiated an emergency preparedness program that leverages
resources held by unaffiliated and untrained volunteers in houses of worship, faith-based and community
organizations. The primary objectives of the Emergency Preparedness Program is to maximize recruitment,
training, education and preparation of these volunteers in coordination with emergency management personnel;
and to create a robust volunteer workforce to assist vulnerable populations prior to, during and after a disaster.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE & SUICIDE AWARENESS PROGRAM TCDC partners with Magellan Health Services to
lower the occurrence of substance abuse and suicide among African-Americans. The program entails assessing the
needs of the African-American community as it pertains to substance abuse and suiutilize local resources to fostercide, assessing the resources of
the community, and bringing likeminded community members together to
awareness and prevention.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE ECD brings under one roof the support services to provide
current information to parents of birth through 3rd grade children. ECD educates parents (including teen parents)
on child development, behavior modification, health & safety, and effectively managing educational choices. This
program brings parents and their children together within a learning environment |
