Vision: The Help Enrich and Advance Lives (HEAAL) Coalition envisions a thriving community recognized for its positive change and enriched lives, actively reducing harmful epidemics and embracing a lifelong commitment to healing and recovery.

Mission: The HEAAL Coalition is dedicated to enhancing individual and family well-being by providing resources that foster community awareness, support advocacy, and drive solutions for environmental, behavioral, and societal injustices.




The HEAAL Coalition has significantly reduced youth substance misuse of marijuana, prescription drugs, and alcohol in Maricopa County, AZ communities. This success is rooted in their commitment to raising awareness about the harms of substance misuse through proven, evidence-based prevention strategies. HEAAL's unique strength lies in its collaborative network of 12 diverse community sectors and its utilization of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) model.

Community Education
HEAAL Coalition staff and volunteers coordinate facilitated instruction and training that include Youth related Marijuana, Alcohol and Rx Drug
Prevention Education
Marijuana, Alcohol and Rx Drug prevention workshops for youth and adults dealing with the consequences of misuse of addictive drugs and learning resistance strategies to prevent misuse.
Trauma Informed Care

Youth Leadership
Youth Conversations on the effects of Alcohol

By the age of 15, nearly 35% of teens have had at least 1 drink

By the age of 18 nearly 85% of teens have taken 1 drink

11% of alcohol in the United States is consumed by youth between 12-20 years

About 1 in 7 teens binge drinks, yet only 1 in 100 parents believe his or her teen binge drinks.

Suicide Awareness and Prevention:

Increase awareness of suicide and available community mental health prevention and treatment services among African American individuals and families in Maricopa County.

Suicide Awareness and Prevention offers workshops, seminars, and community forums that enrich and empower our community.
Community Forums:
Semi-annual discussions with the community at large on behavioral and physical health issues.

​Marijuana
The teen brain is still developing, and it is especially vulnerable to drug use Heavy Marijuana use by teens is Linked to:

Educational Outcomes (lower grades and exam scores/less likely to graduate/less likely to enroll in college).
​
Life outcomes (lower satisfaction with life, more likely to earn lower income)
Rx Drug Data
The number of deaths from prescription drugs has passed that of heroin and cocaine combined. Effects of Prescription Drug Abuse cause changes in the reward system, decreasing normal level of pleasurable activity. Personality changes creating psychosis from otherwise normal behaviors.

Opioids - Sleepiness, Confusion, Nausea, Breathing problems, and Coma.
​
Depressants - Slurred speech, shallow breathing leading to overdosing and sudden death, disorientation and lack of coordination.
​
Stimulants - Increased blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, dangerously high body temperatures, decreased appetite/sleep causing poor health, Intense anger and paranoid episodes & higher risks for other medical complications due to high dosing from tolerance build up.

Through our partnership with SACLAz (Substance Awareness Leaders of Arizona), Tanner Community Development Corporation’s HEAAL Program shares vital prevention messaging and resources to support healthier communities.

SACLAz provides research-based education and public awareness campaigns designed to:
